Hi friends.
Today we will write 1000 words. Together. Not because we’re interested in perfecting things. No, today we’re interested in making things, producing things. Because there is a perfection in just continuing to create your art.
Our job today is just to make it in the first place. Generating something new and messy and wild and honest. And then moving on from there. Half the battle is just getting the words down on the page. And by showing up consistently this week and writing, you’ve fought that battle—and won.
Thanks for being here, writing alongside me these past six days. Let us all know how you did in the comments. And if you would like to support me personally might I suggest buying a copy of one of my books? Any of them will do, although if you’re here I suspect you might like 1000 WORDS. (My local faves Blue Cypress have some signed copies as do Loyalty Bookstores.)
And be sure to mark June 1 on your calendar for the full-length all-star original recipe #1000wordsofsummer. It’s going to be a good one this year.
Thanks for playing,
Jami
Yesterday was solid 1300 words. The prompt about the weather reminded me of a crucial scene I still haven’t written. And I have to write more on that today! The whole week has gone pretty well especially since I gave myself grace to start a day later.
I’m gonna post here to the community two things:
If you don’t have a productivity writing group yet make one and meet weekly. It’s been the one thing that has propelled my work forward.
Second thing if anyone has a clue how to write a query for a story collection that is a novel in stories I’d love some advice. My synopsis reads like a series of unfortunate events and that book’s been written!
Thank you for having us, Jami. I've really enjoyed these last few days. And while I have a daily practice of 1000 Words ever since I read Carolyn See's book, Making a Literary Life, there's something special in a communal endeavor. Something that happens energy-wise in the world, that was fun to tap into.
