Is it already day 6? Wow! Well, today I wrote about 2100 words, of which many were chaotic and probably will be edited out later, but I plowed through my doubt, confident that it's better to write than hesitate in these cases. I needed to burrow through the first part of what I'm writing and set up the next part, or get bogged down in the first part forever, is my thinking. We shall see if that works or not. I'm just glad I did it and so glad to be able to check in like this every night. Will miss it! Thank you for doing this, Jami!

Oh damn, a little teary-eyed over here. I was reflecting tonight on this, the last night of the Fall Mini, that I used to think that I would just *die* if I didn't finish my first novel by the time I was 30. And here I am, 35 - and I'm not sure I've ever finished anything. Nothing is ever done! I'm not done. Thanks for helping me carry on.

Definitely cried reading tonight's letter. Gonna be sitting with those last paragraphs for awhile, and it inspired the ending of what I've been working on as a blessing-poem instead of just teaching. 6100 words in all, and I'm so proud of myself. Thanks everyone for being along for the ride! Until next time...

Woo hoo! I did it! 6,217 words total!!! We did it! Thank you again Jami for your heartfelt & encouraging words and for inviting again us to join you in your personal writing challenge. I'll forever be indebted to you for all three of the challenges you opened up to us. My writing practice is forever changed in the best way possible. I know now what I'm capable of when I get serious about consistently putting the "butt in chair" and time into it. And, thank you to all the rest of you for being such a supportive community together in this space. I'm not on social media so I'll wish you a Happy (early) Birthday now, Jami! And, I can't wait to read your new release (I ordered it earlier this summer during the 1000 words of Summer).

So I can't count the wordsI did each day; it doesn't seem to add up that way during revision. What I can say is that I reworked the first three chapters of my book, and they seem to have grown from about 36 pages to about 51 pages. I think that's good; one thing I've said about Stephanie, my narrator, is that she can't be so reticent if she's going to be the narrator of a freaking book. I think that's right. I think it's growing in a good way. I think it's better. I hope I'll know more in another fifty pages.

Thanks for the inspiration, the invitation, and the insistence that brought me, and all of us, to writing this week, Jami. Happy 50th birthday, in advance. I'm 67, and every decade for me has been better than the one before. Wishing you the same. Now I have to go throw some salt over my shoulder to ward off the evil eye. And I know I'll write tomorrow. Oh, and please give Sid a skritch from this fan--maybe a treat, too, if he hasn't had too many today.

I can't believe today is the last day! Thank you, Jami, and everyone here. I had a great writing week and produced much more than I would have otherwise. Wrote about 7000 words on my novel, and also spun out a little micro CNF about checking my son's math homework. (That's more interesting than it sounds ;) ). The progress I made this week made me start to imagine that I can finish a draft of my novel by the end of the year.

Late replying today due to a busy day. I was at my desk early morning and I wrote 243 words that took much thought and musing. It is the part that leads to a big scene I already wrote and revision is on my desk for tomorrow.

I read every comment and you all inspire me. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your impressive word counts. Mine may be small but I'm ok about it. No time wasted! Cheers!

Loved the letter today, made me teary! 2009 today, 9,780 total. Some of that was revising. Stayed up late last night getting through a rewritten scene because I couldn't sleep until I finished it. That's the gift of these days, so thank you, Jami! Staying with it until I type The End. I'm not there, but I'm in it, thinking about the reader, about making a book-shaped thing for them, letting some things break so I can put them back together in the very best way. Aaah, revision. I also started on some essays, because this #1000words project always gives me that, too. Sending finishing vibes to everyone for the rest of the year!

Huzzah... Day six! Thank you so much for whispering in our collective ears every morning. These sprints are such a gift. Day one broke open a tiny mundane plot point that hadn't occurred to me all year and suddenly I was able to go to all the grim, dark places I needed to go with this one character without it seeming contrived or like I was "muscling the deal"... thank you so much for that and HBD in advance. We're just so glad you were born :)

Jami! How did I spend my 50th bday on 9/2? Hoping for Paris, but, ya know, pandemic, so spent the day figuring how to put another office in our tiny house (closet, duh), b/c I kept getting kicked out of my office for the better paying gig. Apparently 50 became the year I finally said: My. Writing. Is. Important. Too. TY again for everything you've created, especially this community! Congrats to my fellow bad ass writers. And cheers to even more leveling up! HBD🥂

1009 and first draft of new chapter complete. And yes, it's a mess too but that's okay because my thoughts are out. Thanks Jami for hosting this fun event and for your encouraging words. I'm also using the NaNoWriMo site to help keep me motivated. This challenge fell perfectly into a larger project that I started there on October 1st which is also 1000 words a day (for a full month--eek). This was just the boost I needed to get started with a bang!

Almost 8,000 words after 6 days, the first few bites of the elephant complete. This practice allowed me to dip into some emotional writing and I am very, very grateful to all who shared here. Good luck to all of you with your writing projects. Jami, I preordered your book and can’t wait to read the scene you spent the whole book writing towards. I know it will be so satisfying! Thank you for your guidance- your letter today was especially heartfelt. ❤️

1220 words and finishing the first draft of the chapter at 7027 words. Next week I'll edit this mess -- and it is really a mess! But it's such a good start. I am guessing I will add another few thousand in revisions. I'm excited though. Hope everyone has a productive day!
