1027 and done. Did a combo of handwriting which I then typed up and also I first-draft-typed an entire confrontation scene into my phone. Whatever gets me across the finish line!
The first two days' words built off of each other so deftly so that had to end sometime! And it did today. 1000 words, barely. But done is the goal! Happy Sunday to all from chilly, grey Berlin.
1149 and done! I normally handwrite then transcribe in a google doc, but today I just typed straight into the google doc. Incoming bad weather here in Alabama, gotta make soup, gotta take the holiday decor down, gotta get to a totally different assignment with a looming deadline, gotta bing bang boom today! Good luck everyone!
Yes, I've also been trying to remind myself that this is habit-forming. I will need to have days off (drafting truly drains me), but that doesn't mean I can't do this routinely.
Agree, Mary. I usually don't write for word count, but doing it this way is getting me to places I don't know I'd get to otherwise with my characters. It's fun to try it out - that it's only for 5 days is low enough stakes I'm not overthinking it (so far).
I'm loving this new cadence, and being able to get in flow. Today, I wrote 1164 words. Happy that I'm doing this. It'll be the kickstart of something I'll continue indefinitely ... a renewed practice.
I wrote about 1250 words for day 3. It’s not as easy to do this on the weekends with kids. But I managed to do it anyway. I think I may add a little more this afternoon while naps are happening!
OMG! I get to start my day w/thoughts from Jami Attenberg AND Maris Kreizman! Huge fan--w/out her, how would I know what to read next? Inspired now--but still in bed. 😉
Used a prompt to start: Write a scene in which the protagonist seems to be weaker than the opposing forces. Give the character one balancing strength; let her/him triumph. The scene is set up. Tomorrow I pick it up as the conflict builds. 1026 words.
Whew! That was hard. I write for a living, but my scripts are short. Very short. I was going right along and then saw that I’d only written 300ish words. Mercy!
Another 1,200 words flat and have found a very solid flow with the next act in my WIP. Moving from a climax to the build of the next "era" of the story always freaks me out so this mini 1000 came at the right time.

1270! It is auspicious to have the same numerals in play? I'm taking it as YES, yes it is. ;) Thanks so much for this.

1000 is 1000! :)

Congratulations! Your process (and weather forecast and to-do list) sounds like mine.
Day 3 - 1045 words. The words didn't flow as easily as yesterday, and that's why the habit is so important. Keep going!
Me too, Mary! Glad we kept going :-)

True to the kids comment! Mine have been playing video games with dad while I scribble down a few words!
It’s here now. https://open.substack.com/pub/micahwalter/p/mikes-place-episode-3-of-5

Love this prompt! I may try it out.
1,164! Loving the routine and the sense of community.
Day 3 - 1030 words. Continuing to write about a challenging time for my memoir. Conflict drives scenes… I guess that’s true for memoir too
I got the flu yesterday, so going to take 522 words yesterday and 1520 today as major wins. Writing in a fever dream has new meaning 😆
Feel better Lily!

Great to be here.
Today I wrote 1099 words. Now I just need to think about what I will write next. I’m out of ideas.
1055. Time to eat!

Today was harder than the other days. But here we are at 1054 words for my space travel novel!
