If you’re just joining in now, here’s more about me, this project, and the 1000 WORDS book, which is available now.
Hi friends.
Today we will write 1000 words. Together. Because it’s March, nearly spring, and we’re ready for a shift. Let’s stretch. Let’s pull ourselves out of whatever has been grinding us down these past wintry days. All the ideas and feelings that have been laying not quite dormant but definitely resting in us. Time to wake them up, turn them on, bring them to life. And in that way, we bring ourselves to life. One thousand words at a time.
Good morning, and shout out to the woman I met at the art opening last night who is participating alongside us and said she had only done 700 words that day. Seven hundred words is a lot and you’re killing it. If seven hundred words is what you can do and you feel like you’ve done your best then you’ve basically done a million in my book. Remember: The number is important but doing good work and showing up for yourself every day is the most important.
We were at the Douglas Bourgeois show at the Arthur Rogers Gallery. Doug is notoriously meticulous. I love his work so much.
I’ve been thinking a bit about obsessions lately, what kinds of things we can get obsessed with in our life, our work, and how to deal with them in a healthy, creative, exploratory, productive fashion. I made a list of them. For the rest of this week I’ll share them with you. So I’ll leave you with this:
Today is a good day to get obsessed with the details of your story. Zoom in on them in your scenes and see how it makes a difference. The tiny corners or edges or shimmering glints of light. Find one or two details you can get meticulous with and see what sprouts from that. Now, get in there.
Good luck today.

OK 1354 and I am done. I usually stop at 1000 no matter what but I'm feeling myself this time and I'm really going to go for it. Exciting to dig into this new thing.
I'm doing a Mini -1000, trying to cut that many words a day from my manuscript. Going to think about detail while trying to do more with less, perfect, thank you.
