Hi friends.
Today you will write 1000 words and so will I. Because we believe in ourselves, and this work that we’re doing.
Together we’re going to give our projects a little extra push on this Saturday. We put in so much hard work this past week, and I’m proud of all of us. But what would an extra day of thinking and writing do for our project? Let’s find out.
Could we uncover a lost secret about a character that changes the course of our book? Could we tap into a new, vulnerable feeling and expand on it for an entire paragraph? Could we conclude an idea or finish an entire damn chapter? Could we write a witty piece of dialogue that makes us laugh out loud? Can we surprise the reader — and ourselves — with a twist or turn in the plot? Or could we write one particularly well-constructed sentence that makes us feel like maybe we’re pretty good at this writing game after all.
One last day. One thousand more words.
Thanks for sharing this space with me these past six days. I was so happy to have you all here. These projects help me more than you will ever know. If it’s your first time joining in on something like this, my dream is that there’s something you learned this week — however small — that you can carry with you for your practice from now on. And I hope this week served as a reminder to all of us simply that we can.
If you would like to support me, please think about buying one of my books! If everyone on this list bought a copy of my newest book, I Came All This Way to Meet You: Writing Myself Home, today, it would frankly be amazing.
Thanks for considering, and again, thanks for being here. See you over on Craft Talk in a week.
Jami
You are reading the #Mini1000, an offshoot of #1000wordsofsummer and the Craft Talk newsletter from Jami Attenberg. My most recent book is I Came All This Way To Meet You: Writing Myself Home available at all bookstores, and definitely your local indie.
1053 and done! Grand total for the week: 8074. This was really fun! I am thinking we will do the big two-week #1000wordsofsummer extravaganza starting June 4, so hope to see y'all then!
Thank you, Jami. This is my third 1000 day challenge! These challenges give me the extra kick in the pants I need to move forward. Those days when I find myself lagging at my computer, mentally tired from full days of work and family, struggling to put new words on the page and not just tinker with what I have already written. When I finish the next 1000 today, I will have added another 22+ pages to the story I am working on, which feels good, but isn't even the best part. The best part of deliberately sitting down and writing 6 days in a row is how I start to feel by the 4th day and on. I cannot articulate the feeling well but the best analogy would be that I have fed myself. There is a contentment that starts to flow and makes the rest of life's busyness feel that much better.
