Day 4 of the Mini 1000

Take Yourself Seriously

Hi friends.

Today we will write 1000 words. Because it is day four now — no time to waste — and we’re not fucking around over here. We are determined and focused, and we are hungry, and we want these 1000 words for ourselves. We are taking ourselves seriously.

Today we are going to claim our time and space and not let one thing get in our way until we write 1000 words. We’re going to rip them out of us, then drill those sentences and ideas down into the page, until we feel the heat rising from them. These are our projects! We own them. We love them. They deserve our passion and energy.

This is our moment of impact. We must take ourselves seriously. We must write like we’re on fire.

I’ll add here that I write these words as much to myself as I do to you. I have been taking myself seriously as a writer for seventeen years, and I still have to command myself to do it. Not every day, but enough that I have learned that I find words like these helpful. We have to believe in ourselves every day of our lives. We are the only ones who can do it.
