Day 3, Winter 2026, Mini 1000
Because we want to have impact.
Hi friends.
Today we will write 1000 words. Together. Because we believe they will have some kind of impact on the world. Our words can impress people, inspire them, entertain them, teach them something new. Our words can convince someone else of the truth. They are some of our most powerful tools. What will we use them for today? Let’s find out, one thousand words at a time.
Often when I wake up in the morning I think of nothing but you and what I could say to be of assistance. I clear my head and think: What would I want them to know today to get them to write?
And today it was simply this: This is important. Do it right now. Do not hesitate.
Thanks to everyone for being here these past three days. I’ve appreciated your comments and support. I hope this project gave you a little momentum, whether you were starting something brand new or were trying to pick up some steam with an existing project. It was nice to be on the same team for a few days.
Tomorrow I’ll send out one more letter to the paid subscribers with a few prompts I had sitting in my back pocket. If you’re paid on the other newsletter, a version of it will be cross-posted there.
As a side note, these Minis started just as a little side project for the super nerds who wanted to keep going after 1000 Words of Summer, and I think there were maybe 200 of you the first time we did it? And now there’s more than 10,000 of you signed up for something that happens pretty at random only a few times a year. Cool shit. Glad you’re here.
And finally, this year’s official 1000 Words of Summer starts May 30, 2026 and ends June 12, 2026. It’s our ninth freaking year. The list of contributors is already amazing. Hope to see you there.
Jami

JFC I forgot to tell you in the letter that I had books you could buy. I wrote a bunch of novels! And a memoir. And also there's the 1000 Words book. Makes a good gift for you or a friend. (Firing myself as my own marketing person.) https://bookshop.org/beta-search?keywords=Jami+Attenberg
Hi. I wrote 1,363 words this morning. It went swimmingly. The words flowed and I had fun. Thanks so much for this mini, Jami. I'd been planning to write this piece but hadn't gotten to it. Now it's alive. Happy MLK Day. Don't give up hope.
