Hi friends.
Today we will write 1000 words. Together. Because we are seeking a certain kind of growth. Perhaps we are trying to build new opportunities for ourselves. Or perhaps we are trying to learn something new about ourselves on a personal level. On its most basic level, writing today and every day means we are fattening that pile of words, and there is a deep sense of satisfaction that comes from that. Whatever growth means for us, writing those 1000 words today is one step toward achieving it. And I know we can do this. We’re already halfway there just by showing up.
One of the things I love about writing fiction is that it allows me to create a parallel universe with which to explore all manner of ideas or feelings. Even if that universe doesn't match my own exactly, I'm dealing with a plane that resembles something familiar to me because I created it myself. I can always see my fingerprints in its invention, even if no one else can. So then when I traffic in risky emotions or actions I can feel safe in my approach. And in that moment of creation I have potential for some serious growth.
This is tremendous to me. This is immense. The chance to learn how to evolve as a person? Because of my words? Screw a thousand, give me a million.
Good luck today. Stay open to possibility on the page. I’m proud of you for being here.

1029 finally. It took me a while today because a friend came over in the morning for an early dog playdate and then I went grocery shopping and then, because I have a book coming out in less than a month, I had to make a vat of garlicky-anchovy pasta. And then finally I was ready to write.
1,365 words to kick off the weekend. I've been forced into writing incredibly early because it's the time I have but I'm actually enjoying the peace and quiet. It was a nice way to wake up today.
