I'm a songwriter/recording musician and I have been planning my own three-day 1,000 words in order to push myself officially into the journey of making my next music album after four whole years off...and it's WORKING. I determined that 2.5 hours of focused music generation / revision / discovery would be my 1K word equivalent. I just finished day #3, and I'm really proud and motivated! I've got the book checked out from my local library and will take tomorrow morning to debrief, keep reading, and plan my next mini 1,000 later this month. Thanks Jami and to the commenters who inspired me yesterday during a sluggish start to Day #2!

Just lost an aunt who was near & dear, a creative inspiration. Hadn’t written in a month and didn’t know if I could… but I did! Man, that felt good!❤️

1360 today (yesterday now). Only half a chapter, but good enough for a day where I wasn't feeling my best.

I’ve been sick and struggling with a longer piece about diet/optimization culture and chronic illness, among other things. Yesterday I had a good energy day so I used it to clear my creative spaces and make some visual art—to play vs only “work.” Today I’m hoping to come back to the piece and revise with fresh vigor. So today I’m celebrating the fact that I’m capable of knowing when my process needs rest, play, and focus, and moving fluidly between those states without unnecessary judgment.

1185 words done today! Which was essentially a whole rewrite of yesterday.

The fastest 1k ever. Just a flash of memories from baby gay times in San Antonio. Was feeling sad about not having done my words this morning, but rallied and made it by EOD.

1010. Made it at the end of this day.

Just hit 1027! Yesterday I hit my 1000, posted, then was snowed in and ended up getting 3118. I didn't get the same sort of time today, but the momentum from yesterday pushed me to power through today's words. Pushing is definitely the theme today.

A little over 1k today. I think I will be able to finish Chapter 10 by tomorrow, blessings. Feeling good. I needed this push.

Another 1000 words on my new WIP and a Substack post. Anyone have opinions about whether they have a better writing experience post or pre-exercise. Yesterday I wrote before yoga. Today I wrote after swimming. I feel like today was easier. Oxygenated brain? Time in the pool to ruminate on what I wanted to write? Thoughts?

I definitely feel like I write better after exercise! More relaxed yet alert + more embodied = more creative, for me.

Got 1,150 words this morning on a new work and posted a new stack, Finding Sophie Kinsella, a little tribute to the queen of rom-coms who I discovered later in life. (May she rest in power.) Thanks for the prompt to think about strengths, Jami. Humor is a superpower! And I often forget about it. But with this new work, I'm leaning in and going with the flow. Can't wait to get back to it tonight. Happy writing, friends!

1039 words today. Mostly in my writing journal, but hey, it's something, and it got me to recall a few stories people told me that I want to incorporate in a future essay!

1011 today. Probably gonna be able to post a substack this week, which I haven't been able to do the last couple months!

1287 words! Lesson for the day: if you want to rewrite something, you really have to rewrite it...open a new Word doc and start all over, word for word. Nothing new there and I always resist it, but once I get down to business I'm always glad, and I feel like I've unlocked some great secret which is of course the most obvious thing in the world.

I wrote 1100 words yesterday and 940 today. I am adding to my memoir about things I didnt think I would include in my memoir.

Lots of time with my head in my journals remembering things !!
