Day 1, Winter 2026, Mini 1000
LFG
Hi friends.
Today we will write 1000 words. Together. In this year, in these times. We will shut out the noise for the time it takes us to push those words into existence. They are coming via pen or paper or are you are typing them up, but you are creating, inventing, whirling, getting those damn words out.
Because what is the alternative? Time slips away from us. We never say the things we want to say, need to say. We never get to be a writer.
I prefer this timeline instead. The one where we’re all here together, writing alongside each other. Spending the next three days churning out our beautiful ideas and feelings. I like the version of our lives where we write 1000 words a day. Starting now.
Some housekeeping: Comments are open. Let us all know how it went today. Please cheer each other on. Everything is free, but paid subscribers will get a fourth letter at the end with some writing prompts.
If you need some more inspiration I recommend perusing my other newsletter or the 1000 Words book which may be available at your local bookstore this very second but also probably at your local library, too.
One last idea before we go. Can we think of the three thousand words we’re going to write this weekend as currency? What could we buy with those words? A chapter of a book-in-progress? Could you spend three days writing poems? Could you write the first draft of an essay? Could you finally start that novel you’ve been meaning to write your entire damn life? What do the words get you?
Good luck out there.
Jami

Ok y'all 1150 words here, pretty messy and vulnerable but it's done! Also I saw two different women crying at the cafe this morning and I thought are we all just having FEELINGS right now? (I think we are.)
Good morning. I wrote 1,068 words on a new Substack idea. I'm grateful for this opportunity, Jami. For the past almost year, since I finished my novel, I've been focused mainly on query letters. I wrote one essay but it wasn't enough to sustain my writer brain. I'm back in the saddle as of this morning. Til tomorrow!
