Good morning, everyone.
Today we are going to write 1000 words, all 4,447 of us. Let’s write nimbly, and let’s write from our hearts. We are going to do this efficiently, quickly. Let’s dart onto our laptops or cellphones or typewriters, drop off those words, and dart back out again, away into our days.
Be present, write, and go forth.
What are you writing the next six days? Can you say it out loud to yourself?
I’m writing an overstuffed novel, I keep telling friends. There are all these weird little plot lines that keep popping up. They operate like a short loop trail off a longer hike, one that takes you to an interesting viewpoint and then circles back beautifully to the main story. I couldn’t ignore them if I tried. I just have to keep generating them and hope that this book will let me know when to stop already. I have a final chapter in mind in the distance. I’ve been writing to it since last summer. I can only keep writing until I get there. But I see it up ahead. Just a little further ahead now.
I’m about 2/3 of the way through my novel. I’m going to use this time hopefully to crank through the first draft of one longer chapter and finish drafts of two short chapters I’ve been messing around with these past few weeks. I’m just being super fucking steady and focused, and I invite you to join me in getting into it with your work, really showing up for the thing you need to be doing these next six days.
I’m leaving the comments open for you to drop in a few sentences or two about what you’re working on. Stake your claim for this week.
Let’s go!

p.s. T-shirts are available again.
p.p.s. I’ll be on the #1000wordsofsummer hashtag on twitter every afternoon this week.
I'm revising an unpublished work and hoping to eliminate 1000 words a day. That counts, right?
I’m 12 scenes away from the end of this book. 1000 words a day will get me close enough to *see* the finish line.
